Law is considered one of the most promising and lucrative careers in our country today. Students, who are willing to study law and want admission in a National Law University, are required to write  Common Law Admission Test (CLAT).

CLAT stands for Common Law Admission Test. Before 2019, CLAT exam was conducted by the different National Law Universities (or NLU’s) on a rotational basis. CLAT 2018 was conducted by National Law University Odisha (NLUO), Odisha. Later on, a committee was organized which was headed by NLU Bangalore. Now onus is on this committe to conduct the entrance exam for the most sought after UG PG Law Universities. The CLAT (UG) is the entrance exam for admission to the 5 years integrated law programs offered by the various NLUs. The CLAT (PG) is the entrance exam for admission to their LLM programs.

ELIGIBILITY:

The eligibility is measured on the following grounds:

UG Programme

1. There will be no upper age limit for UG Programme in CLAT 2019.
2. As regards minimum percentage of marks in the qualifying examination (i.e., 10+2 or an equivalent examination), the candidates must have secured:
1. Forty five percent (45%) marks or its equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to General/OBC/PWD/NRI/PIO/OCIcategories
2. Forty Percent (40%) marks or equivalent in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST categories.
3. Candidates who are appearing in the qualifying examination in March/April, 2019 are also eligible to appear in CLAT-2019 examination. However, they shall be required to produce an evidence of their passing the qualifying examination at the time of admission, failing which they shall lose their right to be considered for admission.
4. The result of the qualifying examination (i.e., 10+2) shall be submitted by the candidate at the time of admission failing which the candidate shall be ineligible for admission to the Course.
5. In case of equal marks, the break of tie shall be by the following procedure and order as under:
1. Higher marks in the component /section on legal aptitude in the CLAT-2019 exam;
2. Higher age;
3. Computerised draw of lots.

PG Programme

1. An LL.B Degree or an equivalent examination with a minimum of Fifty five percent (55%) of marks or its equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to General/OBC/PWD/NRI/PIO/OCI categories and Fifty percent (50%) of marks or its equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST categories.
2. Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination in April/May 2019 are also eligible to apply.
3. No upper age limit is prescribed for appearing in CLAT-2019.

Exam Pattern:

The national law entrance exam will be of two hours duration.

• MODE OF EXAM: OFFLINE
• NUMBER OF SECTIONS: In LLB- 5 Sections and In LLM – 3 sections
• Nature of Questions:Objective type (MCQs)

UG Programme

Scope and coverage of questions under different subject areas:

1. English including comprehension:

The English section will test the candidate's proficiency in English based on comprehension passages and grammar. In the comprehension section, candidates will be assessed on their understanding of the passage and its central theme, meanings of words used therein, etc. The grammar section requires correction of incorrect grammatical sentences, filling of blanks in sentences with appropriate words, etc.

2. General Knowledge and Current Affairs:

The General knowledge will be evaluated on the general awareness including static general knowledge. Questions on current affairs will test the candidate's on their knowledge of national and international current affairs.

3. Mathematics:

This section will test the candidate's knowledge on elementary mathematics, i.e., maths taught upto 10th Class/Standard. This portion consists of various topics like compound interest and simple interest, profit and loss, number system, time and work, Time and Distance, discount, Average, Ration and Proportion etc.

4. Legal Aptitude:

This section will test the candidate’s interest towards the study of law, research aptitude and problem solving ability. Questions may include legal propositions (described in the paper), and a set of facts to which the said proposition has to be applied. Some propositions may not be “true” in the real sense, candidates will have to assume the “truth” of these propositions and answer the questions accordingly.

5. Logical Reasoning:

The purpose of the logical reasoning section is to test the candidate’s ability to identify patterns, logical links and rectify illogical arguments. It may include a variety of logical reasoning questions such as syllogisms, direction, sitting Arrangement, Ranking and ordering, calendar, blood relations, Puzzles,  logical sequences, analogies, etc.

INSTRUCTION TO FILL CLAT APPLICATION FORM:

1. Registration:Law aspirants will have to register first in order to get a provisional Registration ID and Password.
2. Scanning and uploading: Login with the provisional ID and Password, and upload the documents as per the defined guidelines. Front facing passport size recent photograph with plain background.

3. Filling Application Form: Proceed to fill in the other required details in the application form. The information can be entered in any order. The sections are as follows:
   1. Personal Detailslike name, DOB, mobile number, Parent’s name, Postal Address, Gender, category etc.
   2. Qualification Details like marks scored, percentage, passing year, Board name etc.
   3. Preference for NLU as per your preference.
4. Payment of Application fee : The final step is to pay the stipulated application fee.
5. Application fees can be paid only Online.
6. Application fee for General/OBC/ PWD/ NRO/OCI: Rs.4000
7. Application fee for SC/ST/BPL Category Candidates : Rs. 3500

HOW TO DOWNLOAD ADMIT CARD

    The Admit Card/Hall ticket can be downloaded by the candidate by logging into his/her account. The exact date on which the hall tickets will be made available will be intimated on the website.

      Visit CLAT Official Website to check the results, carrying the qualifying status of candidates in CLAT 2019. Enter the registered

       Email I.D and Password to access.

PREPARATION TIPS FOR CLAT 2019

• Exam pattern and syllabus clarity: There should be a clarity of what to study for CLAT 2019 preparation. Understanding the CLAT 2019 syllabus and exam pattern is important. When a law aspirant knows the syllabus, he/she can know how much to study for the national-level law exam. 
• Regular Revision : Revising is always important. When you revise, you brush-up the already read facts, which further helps in memorising it.
• Mock Test: The mock tests are the best way to check the subjects, topics and questions in which the law aspirants lag behind. This will help your mental preparation for the actual CLAT 2019 exam day.
• Do not waste time on social media and other distractions from mobile or internet while you  seriously preparing for CLAT 2019.
• Extensive Reading: Read more to improve the language. Read books, magazines, journals, newspapers, and novels to enhance your word power and make your expression lucid.
• Stay Positive : Learn to think positive and stay positive. Remove negative thoughts from your mind by pursuing things that interest you a lot.
• Speed and Accuracy:  It is the essential tool for clearing any Bank exam. Always try to attempt those questions in which you are sure of your answers. Prevent any negative marking.
