Recently, the artificial sweetener Aspartame has been the subject of a safety evaluation by the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), which will release a report next month. Thousands of items, including Diet Coke, ice cream, and chewing gum, use it worldwide. According to reports, it may cause cancer in people. The sweetener will soon be classified by WHO as "possibly carcinogenic to humans". That would imply that aspartame and cancer are linked in some way.
