Overview

CUET (UG) stands for Common University Entrance Test UG.

CUET (UG) will provide a single window opportunity to students to seek admission in any of the Central Universities (CUs) across the country, for the academic session.

CUET (UG) will provide a common platform and equal opportunities to candidates across the country, especially those from rural and other remote areas and help establish better connect with the Universities.

It is a single entrance test for admission to Central Universities and other participating Institutions which will be admitting the candidates to their UG courses for the academic year 2023-24 based on the marks/NTA Score secured by them in this test.

The National Education Policy has clearly elucidated that the entrance to Higher Education should be through Common Entrance Test at the national level so that there is uniform standard of bench marking of candidates.

Role of NTA in CUET (UG)

NTA has been entrusted with the responsibility of conducting the CUET (UG). Role of NTA is confined to registration of candidates, issue of admit cards, conduct of exam, host answer keys and invite challenges, finalise answer keys, process and declare results.

Eligibility, reservation, admission etc. are as per the rules and regulations of the respective Central University/ies/Participating Institutions.

CUET Exam conducting body: National Testing Agency (NTA)

Mode of Examination of CUET: Computer Based Test-CBT

Reasons & Benefits of Conducting CUET Exam

The push for a common entrance test comes at a time when unrealistic cutoffs for admission to premier institutions like Delhi University have underlined the need for alternatives. The UGC hopes it will create a level playing field for everyone.

It was observed that there is huge competition in top universities with high cut-off marks, so the exam was introduced to reduce the high cut-off standards for entering these prestigious colleges.

The exam is a centralized test for top universities like Delhi University, Banaras Hindu University, Central University of Punjab, and Jawaharlal Nehru University.

Being a centralized test, students can focus on a single aptitude test instead of appearing for multiple entrance tests to get admission to these top universities.
