2. How is CUET (UG) 2024 going to be helpful to a student?

The Common University Entrance Test CUET (UG) – 2024 will be helpful to a student in the following ways:-

  1. In the past, students used to be under stress to secure more than 95% marks in Class XII Board Examination so as to get admission in the University of their Choice. With the introduction of CUET (UG) – 2024, the stress on them for securing very high marks in the one and only Board Examination stands reduced.
  2. Marks given by different Boards vary widely on account of the typology of questions and the scoring pattern. These things will now get standardised under CUET (UG) - 2024.
  3. The question paper pattern in CUET (UG) – 2024 will be objective type comprising Multiple Choice Questions and hence evaluation will be objective. In this manner, subjectivity in evaluation of the descriptive type of papers in the traditional Class XII exams of different Boards will not handicap the candidates in getting admission to the University of their choice.
  4. CUET (UG) – 2024 will be held in the Computer Based Test (CBT) mode where result processing will be done through technology with no human intervention.
  5. CUET (UG) – 2024 will be based on Class XII syllabus and hence candidates of Class XII need not prepare for it separately.
  6. In CUET (UG) – 2024, students have a wide range of options-i.e. 27 subjects, 33 Languages and General Test to choose from. They can select the Subject/Language/General Test of their choice, as per the requirements of the University where admission is sought. 3. How will The Common University Entrance Test CUET (UG) – 2024 address the diversity of the students across the country?

The Common University Entrance Test CUET (UG) – 2024 will provide a common platform and equal opportunity across the country especially to those students coming from rural and urban areas including candidates from the three National Boards CBSE, AICSE and NIOS.

In CUET (UG) - 2024, students have a wide range of options-i..e 27 subjects, 33 Languages and General Test to choose from. They can select the Subject/ Language/ General Test of their choice, as per the requirements of the University where admission is sought. They can also choose any of the 13 languages specified therein as medium of their test.

4. I secured 99% marks in Class XII but did not get admission in the desired university.

In the past, candidates had this grievance that though they scored 99% in Class XII, they could not get admission in the Universities of their choice. This was basically because of varied typology of questions and scoring pattern across different Boards in the country.

These things will now get standardized with the introduction of CUET (UG).

The question paper pattern in CUET (UG) – 2024 will be objective type comprising Multiple Choice Questions and hence evaluation will be objective. 5. How will I prepare for both CUET (UG) – 2024 and the Board Examinations?

The syllabus for the subject/domain tests of CUET (UG) – 2024 will be based on Class XII so that there is no pressure on the candidates to prepare for both the exams.

The effort that would be required to do well at CUET (UG) – 2024 will also help candidates to prepare well for their Board Examinations. Thereby, it would strengthen their learning.

6. What does the National Education Policy Say?

The National Education Policy has clearly elucidated that the entrance to Higher Education should be through Common Entrance Test at the national level so that there is uniform standard of bench marking of candidates.

7. How does CUET (UG) – 2024 provide more flexibility and options for me to choose from?

In CUET (UG) - 2024, a candidate may take maximum 09 tests in the following manner:

  • 02 languages from Section IA and Section IB taken together, maximum of 06 Domain Subjects from Section II and General Test from Section III.

                                                                                                                    OR

  • Maximum of 03 languages from Section IA and Section IB taken together, maximum of 05 Domain Subjects from Section II and General Test from Section III.

9. Is it compulsory for a candidate who desires to join any Central University to appear in CUET (UG) - 2024?

Yes. A candidate who wants to get admission in any UG courses in any Central University or its affiliated colleges for the academic year 2024-25 must appear in CUET (UG) - 2024.

It has been mandated that admission to UG courses of Central Universities for the academic year 2024-25, will be done on the basis of NTA Score obtained in CUET (UG) - 2024.

10. When is the exam going to be held?

Exam will be held in July 2024. Please be in touch with the NTA website for the exact dates/any updates in this regard.

11. What is the mode of conducting the exam?

It will be conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode.

12. What is the pattern of the test?

The test will be objective type. The question paper will comprise Multiple Choice questions.

13. How do I choose the tests?

Before selecting the tests, you are advised to visit the website of the University where admission is sought and read carefully the details relating to courses offered, eligibility, tests that should appear in, for admission to the desired course, reservation, admission policy, etc so that you have an idea which test is to be selected.

Your choice of subjects/Language/General test will depend on the requirements of the desired University/ies for the desired course.

You can opt for any one or more of the test as per the requirements of the University desired.

Follow the Steps given below:

(a) Print List of University/ies given at Appendix-1 in the Information Bulletin.

(b) Select the University/ ies and Courses where you intend to take admission.

Visit the Website(s) of the University/ Universities and NOTE down the eligibility criteria for the Courses in which you intend to take admission (required Test/Subjects for appearing in CUET (UG) – 2024 This should be noted down for all University/ Universities and Courses where you intend to take admission.

(c) Select the required Test/Subjects for appearing in CUET (UG) – 2024 from the following:

A candidate has the option to choose any Language/Domain Specific Subject/ General Test or a combination thereof as may be required for admission to specified course/s of the desired University/ies while applying from following Sections:

  • Section IA - 13 Languages
  • Section IB - 20 Languages
  • Section II - 27 Domain Specific Subjects
  • Section III - General Test

It is not mandatory to choose any one or more of the tests stated above. The choice of tests would depend on the course/s opted by the candidate and the University/ies where admission is sought.

(d) The exam will be held in two slots as follows. Candidate can select Slot I or Slot or both the Slots as per the tests required to be opted as applicable to the desired course/s of the desired University/ies

  • Slot-1: Upto 4 Tests/Subjects:

14. The Undergraduate course I want to do, is not available in the list of 27 Domain Specific Subjects being offered in CUET (UG) - 2024? What should I do?

Please check with the University where the course is offered to find out the tests that should be taken in CUET (UG) – 2024 for the purpose of admission to that course.

15. I need to opt for Sanskrit, both as a language and domain specific subject. What do I do?

For all Shastri (Undergraduate) courses being offered in Sanskrit, a candidate may choose Sanskrit as the Domain Subject from Section II. For choosing Sanskrit as Language a candidate may choose Sanskrit from Section IB which will be used for testing their Reading Comprehension (based on different types of passages- Factual, Literary and Narrative.

16. What will be the level of question for CUET (UG) – 2024?

All questions in various testing areas will be benchmarked at the level of Class XII only. Students having studied Class XII Board syllabus would be able to do well in CUET (UG) – 2024.

17. How many attempts can I give in CUET (UG) – 2024?

CUET (UG) – 2024, is meant for admission to UG courses of Central Universities for the academic year 2024-25. It is scheduled to be held only once, in July 2024.

18. How will the University admit the students to their courses?

CUET (UG) – 2024 has been designed in consonance with NEP where students will be able to choose the subjects for taking the test and each University will be able to see each student’s individual subject scores in subjects and admit students into their programmes based on their score in different subjects and languages.

19. Will a student be allowed to take exams in several subjects listed under Section II so as to apply to various streams?

Yes. An applicant can opt for one or more combinations of the following:

a) Language Test

b) Domain subject test

c) General Test

He may opt up to a maximum of 6 subject tests in order to apply to different applicable streams that require these subjects for being eligible.

They should have studied these subjects at grade XII or as prescribed by a particular University under their eligibility conditions for a particular programme.

He may also opt upto a max of 3 languages for Language Test In addition they can take the General Test as well.

However, the third language chosen needs to be in lieu of 6th domain specific Subject chosen by the candidate - as applicable.

20. What is the maximum number of tests that can be chosen by a candidate?

The maximum number of tests to be taken remains 9 only i.e. 2 Languages+6 Domain Specific Subjects+1 General Test OR 3 Languages+5 Domain Specific Subjects+1 General Test: flexibility being provided to help a candidate apply for many Universities depending on their eligibility conditions)

21. Is the time Slot akin to a paper?

No. Each time slot is a combination of tests with different durations. Each test is distinct and is not linked to the other. They are not sections of the same paper. You will not be able to move across the tests, at your convenience. Once you start a test, you have to complete the duration of the test and only thereafter you will be able to move to the next test or leave the exam hall as you desire.

22. Is it necessary that I should opt for both slots?

Choice of the Slots depend on the tests that you should take which in turn depends on the requirements for the desired course in the desire University/ Participating Institutions. You can choose Slot I or Slot II or both the Slots as per your requirements.

23. I want to apply to affiliated college of a Central University, do I have to appear in CUET (UG) – 2024 for that?

Yes. For getting admission in Central Universities CUET (UG) – 2024 Score is compulsory. Admission in affiliated colleges will also be based on CUET (UG) – 2024 Score only.

24. Is there a skill test also after I pass this test?

Yes, for skill based programmes like Dance/ Music/ Theatre, Universities may conduct the skill test.

25. What is the validity of the Category Certificate (SC/ST/OBC/EWS-Gen.) and PwD certificate?

In this regard, aspirants need to follow the rules of the relevant admitting Institutions.

26. I am a PwD candidate, eligible for a scribe. Can I use my own scribe for writing the Exam?

Candidates will not be permitted to bring their own scribe for writing the test. NTA will provide the scribe to the eligible PwD Candidates.
