Degree: BCA/ B.Sc. Computer Science

Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) is a 3 years undergraduate program (divided in 6 semesters) in Computer Applications. In the recent years, BCA has emerged as one of the in-demand vocational courses. This course focuses on preparing students for roles pertaining to Computer Applications and IT industry. The course helps a student develop programming skills, networking skills and learn application packages, programming languages and modern techniques of Information technology.

In the recent years, BCA has emerged as one of the in-demand vocational courses. It can provide a number of job opportunities and has a good career scope for the candidates. The various kinds of job opportunities for the candidates soon after the completion of their BCA course are

  1. Database Administrator
  2. Web Programmer
  3. Software Programmer
  4. Web Designer etc.

Initially the candidates are going to pay an amount of Rs. 18000 to Rs. 25000 as a Fresher. Once they get experience, they will be paid high salaries. In order to get more salaries, one can do MCA course or some other certification courses.

There is not much difference between BCA and B.Sc. in Computer Science except that the former is more professionally inclined. In BCA a student learns mainly about operating systems, DBMS, Digital Electronics and other areas of Information Technology. BCA, as a course, seeks to bridge 10 the gap between business and technology. In BCA, focus is on the technological aspect of computer applications. On the other hand, Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Computer Science is a theory based paper and deals in both hardware and software part of computer. In this course, a student can learn soft computing skills and mathematical and theoretical concepts related to computers.

After completing the BCA course students can start as Junior Programmer or a Software Tester and then move higher up the ranks and attain the role of a Senior Programmer. IT industry is booming in India and even in times of global recession, the Indian scene was relatively stable. While BCA gives students a solid grounding in technology theory, career wise, you're more likely to find your competitive edge by completing your MCA.

1) The job opportunities exist in Government Sectors (Armed Forces, Nationalized Banks, PSUs e.t.c.) as well.

2) When it comes to Private sector, Software MNCs (like Infosys, TCS, Google, Tech-Mahindra, Patni, and WIPRO) are the prime recruiters. Web hosting, IT sector, Electronics Industry is some other sectors that recruits BCA. Graduates.

3) Graduates may also become self employed, by becoming freelance or independent software developers, software security experts, consultants etc.

4) One may also go for advanced courses such as MCA.

5) PhD and eventually take up teaching job or even venture into Research and Development sector associated with this field!

BCA is a three years course and IP University offers the admission to this course through CET.

  • Appearing/ Passed Class of 10+2 of CBSE or equivalent with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate* with pass in English (core or elective or functional). Mathematics or (Computer Science / Informatics Practice / Computer Applications / Multimedia & Web Technology / Data Management Application / Web Application as compulsory subject of non-vocational stream with 70 theory and 30 practical ratio).

OR

  • Three year Diploma in a branch of Engineering from a polytechnic duly approved by All India Council for Technical Education and affiliated to a recognized examining body with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate.

  • Mode of examination- Offline
  • Total Questions-150
  • Maximum Marks -600 Marks
  • Duration of the examination-2 Hours 30 minutes or 150 minutes.
  • Types of Questions- Multiple Choice Questions(MCQs)
  • Each correct answer carries four marks. For any wrong answer 1 mark will be deducted.

Jamia Millia Islamia does not provide Undergraduate course in Computer Application | IT.

 There used to be BACA-Bachelor of Arts with Computer Applications under the department of economics but this course has been called off and 2015 batch is the last batch of this course.
